The plot of God of War for PS4 is really surprising and exciting to play, but we are not here to talk about the entire plot of this game. If you have not played the game yet and do not want any spoilers, we would recommend you to stop here and play the game first so that we do not spoil your gaming experience. What ever which we are going to write below this point will be more of a spoiler and something that could lessen your first God of War experience.
There are a lot of things that we get to know in the new God of War game. The first thing that most of the players were dying to know was – who is the main villain in this new God of War game? Odin. Yes, we were as surprised as you are. Odin is the big and main villain in God of War. He is the one who has bee controlling everything in the game. He might not seem to be in the game, but he is everywhere and each and every character you meet knows about his existence. This you can make out while having conversations with them. And some of these conversions also give you an insight about his personality.
Odin in this game seems to be driven by ruthlessness and great curiosity. In one of the conversation we come to know that, Odin once hanged himself and walked the land of the dead. However, he was thrown back into the normal world and brought back to life. He did all this just to learn the secrets of death. He also wooed and married the Vanir deity named Freya who was good in Vanir magic. He married her to enhance his knowledge in Vanir magic and become a master in the arts. Once he was don, he casted Freya to the Midgard in exile.
However, in this game, Odin’s son Baldur wants Kratos and his son dead. He chases after the main character in most of the game. Now who is Baldur and why he wants Kratos dead, you will find it out below.
Who is Baldur?
The God of War brings together two characters of the Norse mythology. The withch which we saw in the trailer of the game is nothing but Freya. Yes, the Vanir deity Freya whom Odin married. She is the one which in the game heals Atreus and also bring Mimir back to life. And not only that, she is the mother of Baldur. She does not know that Baldur is after Kratos. Actually, his motives are unclear in most of the game. However, Mimir says that Odin might have tricked Baldur to think that killing Kratos is the only way he can have feelings. He attacks as a stranger during the start of the game, but soon it is clears that it is nothing other than Baldur.
You cannot kill Baldur in the entire game expect the end. He is very strong and survives all kind of attacks that Kratos makes on him. He is invincible because his mother Freya made entire world and all the objects in it to swear an oath to not to harm her son in any way. He has just one weak point, humble mistletoe. And that only turns up his main reason of death as well.
Early in the game, Atreus save s a dwarf merchant named Sindri from a gigantic dragon. As a reward he gets mistletoe arrows from the dwarf. When Atreus meets Freya, she tells him that they are really dangerous and burns them without telling why. However, one of the Atreus had used to quiver harness so that it does not break. That arrow gets unnoticed. During the end of the game, Baldur tries to punch Atreus in the same spot where the mistletoe toes is and it instantly breaks the spell and the oath, leaving Baldur completely mortal.
After a very long battle with Baldur, Kratos is about to kill him but spares his life. But then Baldur tries to kill Freya because she made him invincible and because of which he wasn’t able to feel anything since so long. Kratos catches him and finally chokes him to death. However, Freya is not happy with that and he curses Kratos for all of eternity.
Atreus is actually Loki
The story does not end there. After killing Baldur, Kratos and his son reach Jotunheim. It is the world of giants where they find that all that they have gone through has already been written there on the walls of the realm. At the same time Atreus gets to know that he has been referred as Loki on the walls. We come to find out that Loki was the first name that Kratos and his wife Faye wanted to give to him, but they later settled on Atreus. Atreus comes to know that his mother Faye was actually a giant and she prophesied all that they have been through.
Lead about the upcoming Games
The game ends at a very crucial as well as interesting point. Kratos kills Modi and Magni, both of them Thor’s son in his journey to the Jotunheim. So, in the end we see a outline of the Thor as well as a glimpse of his hammer. We wont be surprised if we see Kratos fighting Thor in the next God of War game.
Not only that, we are sure that Atreus will also play a major role in the next game. We hope to see how actually Atreus turns into the God of mischief, Loki. Also, we see Odin and Freya recombine over the death of their son. So, there is a possibility that Odin might be the main villain in the next game too, seeking revenge of Baldur’s death.
